아이키도 삼성당이 제공하는 오늘의 영상은 '료테도리 텐치나게(양손잡기 천지 던지기)'를 다룹니다.

얼마 전 일본의 아이키도 전문 유튜브 채널(Shioda Masahiro Aikido journey)에 우에시바 모리헤이 큰선생이 생존하셨던 당시에 입문한 고참 선생이 출연하여 많은 좋은 이야기를 해주셨습니다.

이 중에서 제게 가장 인상 깊었던 부분이 '료테도리 텐치나게의 원형'에 관한 것이었습니다.

저는 사실 이 기술을 처음 배울 때 "왜 굳이 이렇게 해야 하지?"라는 의문을 품어 왔습니다. 텐치나게는 어떤 면에서 독특한 기술입니다. 료테도리의 상황 외에는 달리 나올 곳이 없습니다. 어떤 상황에서라도 범용적으로 쓰일 수 있는 다른 기본기들과는 대조적입니다.

그리고, 한손은 하늘로, 한손은 땅으로 향하게 하는 형태를 띱니다. 하늘로 향한 손은 이리미나게(입신던지기), 땅으로 향한 손은 스미오토시(구석던지기)의 형태입니다. 그러므로 텐치나게는 이리미나게와 스미오토시를 합친 기술처럼 보이기도 합니다.

또 한편으로는 자기 코큐호(좌기 호흡법)을 서서 하는 것처럼 보이기도 합니다.

이처럼 텐치나게는 단 하나의 상황에서 사용되는 기술임에도 많은 썰을 풀 수가 있는 독특한 위치를 차지하고 있습니다.

고참 선생님의 증언에 따르면, 이 기술은 상대방이 (칼을 쥔 나의) 양손을 잡자마자 발차기를 시도할 때 이에 대응하는 기술이었다고 합니다. 저는 무릎을 탁 쳤습니다.

이상의 과정에서 저는 계고(稽古)의 의미, 옛것을 통해 새로움을 깨닫는 '온고지신(溫故知新)'의 의미를 다시 생각해보게 되었습니다.

先日、日本の合気道専門YouTubeチャンネル (Shioda Masahiro Aikido journey) に植芝盛平翁が生存されていた当時に入門した古参の先生が出演され、多くの貴重なお話をしてくださいました。

その中で私が最も印象深かったのは「両手取り天地投げの原形」についてでした。

実は、私はこの技を最初に学んだ時から「なぜわざわざこうしなければならないのか」という疑問を抱いていました。天地投げは、ある意味で特異な技です。両手取りの状況以外では出てこない技なのです。どのような状況でも汎用的に使える他の基本技とは対照的です。

そして、片手は天へ、片手は地へ向かう形を取ります。天へ向かう手は入身投げ、地へ向かう手は隅落としの形です。そのため、天地投げは入身投げと隅落としを組み合わせた技のようにも見えます。

また一方では、座技呼吸法を立ってやっているようにも見えます。

このように天地投げは、たった一つの状況でしか使用されない技であるにもかかわらず、多くの解釈が可能な特異な位置を占めています。

古参の先生の証言によると、この技は相手が（短刀を持つ私の）両手を掴むや否や足技を仕掛けてくる時に対応する技だったとのことです。私は膝を打ちました。

以上の過程で、私は稽古の意味、古きを温ねて新しきを知る「温故知新」の意味を改めて考えさせられました。

Recently, on a Japanese Aikido YouTube channel (Shioda Masahiro Aikido journey), a senior instructor who began training during O-sensei Ueshiba Morihei's lifetime appeared and shared many valuable insights.

Among these, what impressed me most was the discussion about the "original form of Ryotedori Tenchi-nage."

In truth, when I first learned this technique, I had questioned, "Why do we need to do it this way?" Tenchi-nage is, in some ways, a unique technique. It only appears in ryotedori situations, unlike other basic techniques that can be applied universally in various situations.

And it takes the form where one hand points to heaven and one hand points to earth. The heaven-pointing hand resembles Irimi-nage, while the earth-pointing hand resembles Sumi-otoshi. Therefore, Tenchi-nage can appear to be a combination of Irimi-nage and Sumi-otoshi.

On the other hand, it can also look like performing Suwariwaza Kokyu-ho (seated breathing exercise) while standing.

Thus, Tenchi-nage occupies a unique position where, despite being used in only one situation, it allows for many different interpretations.

According to the senior instructor's testimony, this technique was originally developed to counter when an opponent would attempt a kick immediately after grabbing both hands (holding tanto). This revelation struck me like a thunderbolt.

Through this process, I was led to reconsider the meaning of Keiko (practice) and "Onko Chishin" - learning new things by studying the old.
