I believe backward ukemi is one of the most frequently used basic forms of ukemi in aikido practice.

It is an important form of ukemi for learning how to round the body, disperse impact, and regain posture when falling backward.

This video shows the process of teaching backward ukemi step by step to a beginner joining aikido practice for the first time.

By breaking the movement down into simple steps, such as rounding the body back and forth, lifting the hips, striking the floor with the hands, switching the feet while sitting, and switching the feet while rising to one knee, backward ukemi can be learned more safely.
