When engaging in physical activities that involve a lot of movement, unexpected injuries can sometimes occur.
Aikido is no exception. As a discipline practiced with a partner and involving full-body movement, there is always a potential risk of injury.
However, simply understanding when and how injuries are most likely to occur—and maintaining proper awareness—can prevent most accidents. Even in situations where a serious injury might have happened, this awareness can often limit the outcome to a minor one.
This video is an edited compilation of injury-prevention guidelines drawn from instructional materials produced by the Aikikai Headquarters Dojo, focusing on key safety considerations during the practice of major techniques.
We hope this video helps make your Aikido training safer and more enjoyable.
