This is the 8th kyu examination of a female student who has been training for three months at the KAU Ansan Dojo.
At the Ansan Dojo, beginners are strongly encouraged to memorize the entire set of basic kata (forms).
Promotion examinations are used as a step-by-step process for memorizing the complete set of fundamental Aikido kata.
The basic structure of promotion examinations at the Ansan Dojo is as follows:
10th–8th kyu: Ikkyo
7th kyu: Iriminage / Tenchinage
6th kyu: Nikyo / Shihonage
5th kyu: Sankyo / Kotegaeshi
4th kyu: Yonkyo / Kaitennage
3rd kyu: Gokyo / Yokomen Iriminage
2nd kyu: Hijikime Osae / Juji-garami
1st kyu: Koshi-nage / Aiki-otoshi
At the Ansan Dojo, promotion examinations are used as a way to memorize the overall structure of the basic kata. During regular classes, students then focus on understanding the meaning of the techniques, refining them, and developing true proficiency.
